Beech and aircraft designer TA "Ted" Wells had come together to
collaborate on a project that many felt foolish; a large, powerful and fast
biplane built especially for business executives. Staggerwing Model 17,
popularly known as "Staggerwing", flew for the first time on November
4, 1932 and set the standard for private passenger aircraft for many years to
come. It was then considered that Gulfstream jets are considered in modern
times.
